Shot Show in Vegas Jan. 19-22

Buyers from all 50 states, as well as 75 countires flocked to Vegas for the largest and most comprehensive treade show for professionals involved with the shooting sports and hunting industries. With 700,000 sq. feet of exhibition space, the SHOT show is the outdoor industry's Main Event. Hobie worked at Kelbly's booth but was able to pass out CryoPlus business cards too.

Woman of Achievement, Founder's Award June 12th

The Women's Network of NE Ohio held it's Woman of Achievement Luncheon at St Joseph's Family Center in Akron, Ohio. I was awarded the Founder's Award. It was such an honor! I commented in my acceptance speech that the Womens Network was one of the most rewarding volunteer organizations to which I've belonged. The programs I've set up in Massillon, Wooster and Canton focus on hleping women advance their careers and open new doors. The WN mission has made my membership a wonderful and rewarding experience. The funny thing about volunteering- you often end up receiving much more than you give.

Sawlex Show in Morgantown, WV

CryoPlus had an exhibit and did a workshop on cryogenics at Sawlex, The Sawmill & Logging Expo in Morgantown WV May 29-30. The Sawlex attracted buyers and sellers from 30 different states for the Great Firewood Processor Competition and Great Portable Sawmill Shoot-out. It was a great show!

I got there Thursday afternoon and searched for a local winery-Forks of Cheat Winery. That evening they were sponsoring a Wild Game Cookout as a fund raiser for the WV State Rifle Team. They just won the National Championships. It was $40 a ticket for all of the wine, beer, wild game dishes and desserts you could eat. I ate everything from pheasant, black bear, moose, deer, to salmon and many more! It was all delicious!

Echoing Hills Lion's District Convention

: Camp Echoing Hills, a camp developed for people with special needs, was the host location for the Ohio Lions District 13-G District Convention on April 3 – 4, 2009. A contingent of Lions from Wayne County rode the curvy hills through Millersburg and south to the Warsaw destination to witness the passing of the gavel from District Governor Robert Buxton to Wayne County’s own District Governor Steve Thornton. Director of International Association of Lions Clubs, Wayne Davis, was the keynote speaker on Saturday afternoon.
Activities included a “Governor’s Roast” on Friday night. Saturday morning a memorial service for Lions who passed away during the year was held just prior to the business meeting. Elections for 2009-2010 District Officers followed. The Grand Banquet was accompanied by the introduction of the Head Table/Guests, and speeches by the District Governor and Director Davis who shared a quote from International President Al Brandel “Where there is great love, there is great miracles.” Davis expounded on some of the Lion Club accomplishments he has witnessed in his travels around the world. He spoke of an experience at RAM (Remote Area Medical) in southern W. Va. in July which was actually filmed by the TV show 60 Minutes. Between 75,000 and 100,000 people were waiting in line at daybreak for the chance to get help for eye and dental needs. He shared that the needs are great right here in the US and told of many programs he has seen make a big difference in the lives of many.
As awards and recognitions were passed out, the new Orrville Lions Clubs was happy to show their support for Lion and Past District Governor Todd Imhoff, who was instrumental in getting the Orrville Lions Club off the ground recently. International President Al Brandel sent his commendation to Imhoff for being one of a select few “Everyday Heroes.” The commendation read “Heroic deeds set caring people apart from others. You are hereby commended for distinguishing yourself as an everyday hero by creating miracles through service.”

Doylestown Lions 75th Anniversary

Deb Gazey, Garth Schoffman, Hobie Bond, Rita Shisler and I, from the Orrville Lion's group went to Brookside CC in Norton to celebrate Doylestown's Lion's 75th Anniversary. There were 96 present and 6 different Lions group represented. Orrville had the most of any one group!

Indiana Hardwood Lumbermen's Association

I went to Indianapolis for the 111th Annual Convention and Expo for the Indiana Hardwood Lumbermen's Association Feb 4-5 at the Hyatt. The theme was "Go Hog Wild." The chairman for this year's convention was a Harley rider. The exhibitors were set up in Rumble Alley, showcasing their products and services. For $50 a ticket, you could enter in a drawing for a 2009 Fat Boy Harley.

Hobie's explaining to two Amish men about the benefits of cryogenically treating their gun barrels. The new Holmes Co. Expo Center was the perfect venue for this 2nd annual show. There were more than 200 vendors, as well as a 45 foot bass tank. The Hershberger rack was in display. The 240 -plus deer was killed in southern Wayne Co. this year.

Kathi Bond, along with Ann Gasbarre and Mary Oxenrider, were recipients of the 2008 “Wayne County Women of Achievement Award.” This was the 15th year since 1989 that awards were presented by the Wooster Community Hospital Auxiliary to a total of 50 “Women of Achievement.”

In accepting the award, Bond noted that she understood the significance of “Achievement” from watching her single mother raise a family, earn a living by working two jobs, and still find time to volunteer in the community. She holds volunteering to a high standard, and encouraged everyone to “reach beyond our office walls to assist organizations working to help the communities in which we work.”

Visit to Berger Bullets

At a visit to the Berger Bullet manufacturing facility in June, we got to see first hand the processing of making custom bullets. As demonstrated by general manager Eric Stecker, all raw materials are quality checked as they come in. During each step of the process of making bullets from the drawing process of the copper jackets to the seating of the cores and pointing up many quality checks are done.During the process washing and drying of components also takes place. This wash water must be treated before it can be put in to the sewer system. Eric advises that the water is cleaner when dumped vs. the incoming water from the city.Packaging and shipping of product takes place daily to dealers and customers all over the world.Berger Bullets/J-4 recently consolidated all their operations into one corner of a larger manufacturing facility. This allows for greater efficiency and to provide better quality checking on the entire process.

Graham Dunn manufacturing facility. There were over 150 booths demonstrating all sorts of hunting, fishing and outdoor apparel items.

Crest Metal Doors in San Antonio, TX are using an Onsrud, Titanium Edge, Double Fluted cut-out bit. These bits are used with their C&C cutout machine. This machine cuts out steel doors to accommodate glass inserts.
The cryogenically treated bits last approximately twice as long as regular, non-treated bits, saving them not only in the cost of the bits themselves, but also the time and labor necessary to replace the bit.

Traci Hanger-Hoffman nominated me for a Community Leader award. I WON! Hereos come in all shapes and sizes, from all walks of life, under entirely different circumstances. Hereos are all around us. They are usually people who don't draw much attention to themselves other than to help others when in need. I was among 26 individuals who were nominated as Wayne County Heroes who lended a hand to the down and out, helped out when called upon or made Wayne County a better and safer place to live. May 17, 2007. Here is the story Traci wrote:
Imagine a family in extreme need – we all know them: A single parent who lost his/her job and is struggling to provide food for the family; A parent with a sudden illness that has wiped out the family’s financial reserves…We all know the many different stories. Christmas is coming and there is nothing left to spend on gifts for the kids or even a special meal on the big day. Disappointment is looming large in the faces of the children. Despair haunts the parents. That is where Kathi gets involved. Seven years ago, and every year since, Kathi has organized a shopping trip with her mother and her sisters, to provide Christmas for one of these less fortunate families. She gets information from a local church, or from a community agency, or from someone who knows someone. She collects the names, ages, sizes and wishes of each child in the family and of the parent(s) too, and she and her cohorts go shopping. And they shop and shop and shop. And they cook. By the time they are done, they deliver Christmas, complete with a meal and gifts for everyone, to one desperate family. Every Christmas for the last seven years, and for the foreseeable future, Kathi organizes her family to donate their time and resources to this endeavor. No fanfare. No publicity. No formal organization. Just the goodness of her heart reaching out to a family in need. Very heroic indeed.

NBRSA Nationals at Kelbly's Sept. 2007

The NBRSA Nationals were hosted by Kelbly's Inc. in North Lawrence, Ohio Sept. 17-22, 2007. The benchrest competition coincided with George and Karen Kelbly's 50th wedding anniversay. My husband, Hobie, and I had a party for them at our home, serving 135 guests. Cathie Harris, country singer from Milan, TN. performed beautifully!

Karen Gilkison, Fike Agency, Rita Shisler, Shisler Cheese House and I went to Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights for the Cleveland/Akron Athena Banquet Sept. 27. Mary Ann Corrigan-Davis, President of Saint Joseph Academy and Teresa Carter, President of OMNOVA Solutions Foundations were the recipients.

The ATHENA awards, first prsented by the ATHENA Foundation in 1982, recognize the efforts and successes of business people around the world. The awards honor those who have helped women reach their full leadership potential, demonstrate creativiity and initiative in the professions; and improve the quality of life for others in the community.

I flew into Little Rock on the 24th and checked out the Capital Building.

I continued on to Paris- Arkansas unfortunately. It was a beautiful drive! Stopped at Mt. Magazine, the highest point in the state, 2,753 feet above sea level. Ate lunch at the new lodge overlooking the Petit Jean River Vally and Blue Mountain Lake. It was spectacular!

Thursday afternoon I walked the show. It was a busy place with the chippers, grinders, loaders and all of the heavy equipment.

I made time to peek into one of the Bath Houses in Hot Springs. They must have been something in their time! Next time I'm going to relax in one of those hot tubs.

I tried to squeeze too much into 3 days!

2007 ATHENA International Conference in Chicago

Rita Shisler, Traci Hanger-Hoffman and I left Sunday afternoon for Chicago. Needless to say there wasn't a moment of silence for 6 hours except when we had 15 miles left and no gas station in sight. It was REAL quiet for 10 miles until we got gas, with only 5 miles worth of gas left in the tank.

Monday we walked Michigan Ave to shop at American Girl, Hershey's, Ghiradelli's and Victoria Secret. We stopped to rest at the Millenium Park.

Monday evening was a dinner cruise with 100 women. It was a gorgeous evening!

ATHENA celebrated 25 years anniversary of advancing women’s leadership. Workshops included topics such as “Unleashing the confident, empowered woman,” “Lessons of leadership, leaders who build a highly motivated and energized workplace” and “The Courage Code: It’s yours. Break it. Own it. Use it.”
Speakers included Karenna Gore Schiff, author of Lighting the Way: Nine Women Who Changed Modern America, Shinae Chun, Director of the Women’s Bureau U.S. Department of Labor and Ronna Lichtenberg, author of Pitch Like a Girl: How A Woman Can Be Herself And Still Succeed.

Tobogganing instead of Working!

I took my grand daughter, Rheanna, tobogganing in Cleveland. We had a ball! The next day she had off school so we went sled riding and ice skating. I was so sore the next day I could barely get out of bed! The last time I went ice skating was 35 years ago, in HS! I was lucky not to break anything!

The cryo business is off to a great start in 2007. This is year number 13 for CryoPlus. Sales have steadily increased every year. Starrett Webber has been bringing large lots of gage blocks. The chipper knife business has really picked up. I plan to add anvils to our inventory list. Sawmills can do one stop shopping with us- anvils, counter knives and chipper knives.

I still have the pallet stacker for sale. I need to get rid of it and buy a used forklift. A local company comes here to unload semis for us then comes back to load them 3 days later, but that's cutting into my profit!

Berry Plastics in Monroeville, Ohio is shipping a 350 pound die to us today. It's H13 and chrome plated. They are currently having a problem with cracking. Hopefully the cryo will help and we can do all of their dies! Looks like it's going to be another good weekend of processing.

Great Outdoors Sportsman Show in Charm, Oh

Inaugural Sportman's Show debuts in one of Ohio's best hunting regions! This show was every outdoorman's dream day. There were 10,000 people at Keim Lumber from 8-3:00. This show sure put Charm, Ohio on the map! CryoPlus promoted cryo treatment of gun barrels and sawmill cutting tools. The Daily Record stated that CryoPlus appeared to be one of the most technological booths at the show. We explained to the visitors the benefits of cryo processing- extending the life of the cutting tools up to 400%. Hobie took his blue benchrest gun which was quite a drawing card. Everyone stopped to look at it and ask what it was.

Celebrity guests Greg Miller and Stan Potts of North America Whitetail Television shared their experiences. The "Amish Lucky Buck" made it's first public appearance. It was an amazing whitetail with a green score of 295 7/8 non-typical. People were astounded by the size and the rack on this buck.

Coats for Kids

Saturday night my husband, sister, brother in law and I went to the Hilton Garden Inn in Twinsburg for a Fund raiser sponsored by WTAM 1100 Radio, "Vegas Show." Mike Trivisonno was the host, Sonny Geraci was the singer and Mike Cheselka was the comedian. Elvis even made a guest appearance! The show was fantastic, very entertaining. It's a good thing it was so entertaining because it wasn't over until 2:00 AM, which is WAY past my bedtime!

Pallet Stacker for SALE!

A customer in TN. sent CryoPlus 3500 pounds of chipper knives to cryo treat. They arrived Nov. 10th. I was all ready to use the new pallet stacker! Fortunately my husband, Hobie, was here because it took him and the truck driver, with all the strength they could muster, to push that pallet stacker with an 800 pound pallet on it. There is NO way I could have done it myself! Needless to say I called Forkliftdeals.com immediately and expressed my extreme dissatisfaction! The owner told me that this is what I needed and I wouldn't have any problems at all. I explained to him exactly what we needed it to do. There is a slight incline in our driveway and into our building. It 's designed to stack pallets from rack to rack in a warehouse on a FLAT surface. So, it's for sale!

Today I went to Canton to look for a walking stacker that I could operate.

L.S. Starrett Co. Gage Blocks

I delivered 1600 pounds of gage blocks to Starrett Webber Gage in Cleveland.
I also picked up 70 pounds of 10" M-4 discs from Alcon Tool in Akron. Superior Hardwoods sent 24 pounds of counter knives to be treated. Armstrong Ceiling drop shipped 73 pounds of circular saw blades from Peerless. Gray Industrial sent a coil of bandsaw material which they send onto Japan for the sushi industry. We always have quite a variety of tooling!It's going to be another great week for processing!

Association of Millwork Distributors

Don Hall and Associates represent CryoPlus in the moulding and millwork industry. The 42nd annual convention was in Grapevine, Tx this year at the Gaylord Resort October 14-18. All of the key players in the industry were there. Don has been in the business all of his life so I was introduced to all of them.
Monday morning the kick off speaker was Oliver North. The title was "America in the New Millennium." He was fascinating speaker.
Wednesday morning "Afterburners Inc." were the keynote presenters. Fighter pilots spoke about the techniques of Flawless Execution and peak performance to sales teams and top executives of the world's foremost corporations.
The final night gala two legendary country greats Crystal Gayle and Lee Greenwood entertained us. The theme for the evening was Denim and Diamonds. We enjoyed a superb meal and mingled with new acquaintances.

Paul Bunyon Show in Cambridge, Ohio

The Paul Bunyon show, Sept. 6-8 was in Cambridge, Ohio. We couldn't have asked for better weather. It was a perfect Fall weekend. The crowd was the biggest I've ever seen at a show. On Saturday it was all we could do to keep up with talking to attendees and passing out brochures. Over 10,000 people came through the gates.
Friday I spoke about the benefits of cryogenically treating cutting tools and chipper knives. Unfortunately it was the first educational seminar of the day on the first day of the show, so we only had 7 attend.

Miller Brothers from Homer, Mi. brought about 1200 pounds of aluminum bars to have cryo treated. The new pallet stacker sure came in handy! It made life so much easier!
This weekend we had auto parts from East Side Auto and Chris Perry. Brookville Wood Products from PA. sent 5 sets of chipper knives. It was a good processing weekend!

I bought a new Gateway laptop. My son added Microsoft Power Point for me. Now it's ready to go to the Paul Bunyon Show October 5th. Friday the 6th I'm the first speaker of the day. I'll be speaking about Cryo treating cuttingtools, using
a power point presentation I designed.

Tuesday night was the Women's Network of NE Ohio kick off meeting at the Shisler Conference Center in Wooster. Traci Hanger Hoffman, psychotherapist, and Gerry Faust, former Notre Dame coach, were the guest speakers. More than 60 guests enjoyed listening to them speak about "Discover the Plan and Purpose of your life and Re-energize your Dreams."

Kentucky Wood Expo

I traveled to Madisonville, KY for the KY. Wood Expo Sept. 15-16. The weather was perfect, the turnout was great and most important, I met a lot of new people. I shared a booth with Patterson Supply, Precision Husky and Cutting Systems Inc. They made the whole trip worth while! It was a great bunch of guys! Wayne Kaylor from Cutting Systems taught me how to run a 245 XL Knuckle Boom Loader. I wish I would have had my camera with me!
Sunday we had a family gathering since my great uncle was in town. After dinner, all the men uncrated the pallet stacker fork lift and pushed it off of the pallet. Of course I was there with my cameral. I'm looking forward to using it the next time a semi comes. It looks like I'll be using it next week for a big order!

61st Annual Lake States Logging Congress in Green Bay, WI

Sept. 7-9 CryoPlus had a display at the Lake States Logging Congress. The locations was perfect-next to Lambeau Field-home of the Green Bay Packers. It was a fantastic show with a huge crowd- all interested in cryo treating their chains, chainsaw bars, planer and chipper knives! The reason for industry shows is to learn of new products in the industry. In the booth next to CryoPlus was Tom Millerwise from Cold Fire. He sold an environmentally friendly fire extinguishing agent that removes heat and the hydrocarbon fuel source from the fire triangle. It's non toxic, biodegradable, non slip, non corrosive and has indefinite shelf life. It prevents reignition, extinguishes on contact and extinguishes Class D fires. Chipper and slitter knives, Athena Banquet

Today I loaded 1900 pounds of chipper knives onto the Milan Express semi with the Bobcat. Next time I do this order, I'll be using my new Pallet stacker fork lift.

I met Joe Williamson from Ohio Packaging/CorrChoice in Massillon, Ohio for lunch. He gave me 50 corrugator slitter knives to cryogenically treat. He used to change his Zenith Slitter blades every 21-28 days. After the cryo treatment, he changes them every 43 days.

Rita Shisler, one of my dearest friends and owner of Shisler Cheese, and I went to the Athena Banquet in N. Royalton. The Athena award recognizes the efforts and success of business women. It honors those who have helped women reach their full leadership potential; demonstrate creativity and initiative in their profession; and improve the quality of life for others in the community. There were 12 finalists and 3 recipients.

Electric Pallet Stacker

It's been an exciting day! We purchased an electric pallet stacker. It will make life so much easier when semi trucks come to deliver and pick up. For the past 2 years we've been using the neighbor's Bobcat with a bucket. It will arrive September 11th.

We finalized the layout of our new Sawmill & Logging brochure. It's looks awesome!
